Findlay High School Hockey

Findlay High School (FHS) has a long and decorated ice hockey history, most notably as the winner of the inaugural OHSAA State Championship in 1978. 

Championship History
  • State Champions (OHSAA): Findlay won the first-ever sanctioned state tournament in 1978 and followed up with another title in 1983.
  • Early Success: The program actually won a state championship in 1971 before ice hockey was an officially sanctioned OHSAA sport.
  • Repeat Milestone: In 1983, Findlay became the first school in Ohio history to repeat as state champion (having won previously in '78) by defeating Bowling Green 6–4. 

League & Conference Involvement
  • Founding Member: Findlay was one of seven original member schools of the Northwest Hockey Conference (NHC), established in 1977.
  • Coaching Legacy: Mike Root, a former Findlay coach, was one of the key founding members of the NHC.
  • Recent Success: The Trojans were the 2024 conference champions in the Northwest Hockey Conference. 

Program Details
  • Home Ice: The team plays its home games at The Cube Ice Arena in Findlay, Ohio.
  • Rivalries: The program maintains a fierce long-standing rivalry with Bowling Green High School, often referred to as "Trojan Hockey Business".
  • Current Leadership: As of the 2025–26 season, the team is led by Head Coach Ben Patey.
  • Community Impact: The program hosts annual events like the "Hockey Fights Cancer" game and an Alumni Hockey Game to support scholarships.
